A new type of new media that does not currently exist is sending documents to printers from smart phones. In the recent society, people are extremely busy, they do not have such time to wait for a computer, access to email or internet and wait to print. Also, in Baruch College library students have to wait for at least 10 minutes to get a computer, log in, access to email or other sources and wait on a line to print documents. An printer application will send documents from smartphones in a second to any printer that is available near them and prints right away. This application will help busy people to save time, reduce the long steps and also provide convenience to the users.

Wiki So Far

I have contributed the fashion category under Instagram section, I added why fashion brands prefer Instagram instead of Facebook and some actual statistics for better understanding. In further editing process of wiki, I will research more on the fashion area, such as how social media have huge influence on fashion trends all around the world and also education section. I will contribute more to our class wiki with plenty of information.

P2P

File sharing is sharing and transferring digital information, program or system and providing the file access to the receiver through a network. P2P file sharing is the abbreviation for peer-to-peer file sharing, it is a form in which different from server and client concepts. P2P file sharing is sharing files in between individual computers through P2P networks. The examples of P2P file sharing can be Google Lending Club. In the reading, "Peers Find Less Pressure Borrowing From Each Other" by Wendy Kaufman, stated that this system let borrowers and lenders together outside the conventional banking system and take transactions freely. People find this is an alternative to the banking system, very effective, excellent direct funding and also changed consumer behavior.

Privacy

The issues of privacy and confidentiality are always related to new media. In social media, people share their personal information and some wants to share with the public, some wants to share with their friends and some wants to share for themselves, and the social networking services have the specific duty to protect each individual's privacy and confidentiality. If privacy is lost and the information that one does not want to share with the public is reveal, he or she will no longer trust the social media and also, important information or document from organizations is revealed, it will definitely have negative impact the organizations therefore confidentiality and privacy should be preserved.

Advice

If I'm hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the College, I would make some suggestions about the advanced communicating system using new media. Since the media is all about people seeing at what is going on in the society and share and get information, it is all based on communication. Using advanced technology I would create a social networking service which only can be used within Baruch College students and faculty members. It will provide daily updated information, professor reviews, emergency information, online tutoring and improved communication between all of the students.

Creativity and New Media

The Second Life is a virtual world that I can create an avatar and experience things that I could not achieve or do in the real life. In this world, I can edit my own appearance, whatever I want to be, travel anywhere and experience many other things using the media tools that I cannot see or do in the real world. Also, this world has beautiful views and places that we may not have seen in the real life. I am not the only one in the virtual world, there are other avatars that I can communicate with and do activities together. The new media allows to create virtual worlds and my own character which satisfies my own interest and entertainment that cannot be fulfilled in my real life.

Creativity

As the technology improves tremendously day to day, new media also improves. In the reading, "Twitter Serves Up Ideas From Its Followers" by Claire Cain Miller discusses how new media fosters creativity. When Twitter presents a system and observe how people use the service, and engineers figure out whether they should keep this program, remove, or improve it, then engineers turn into new features which is fostering creativity. From the beginning, Twitter users started to refer other users by "@" symbol before their username. Evan Williams, Twitter’s chief executive and a founder said, “That one really took us by surprise” Since then, Twitter has added a section to the site where people can see every time they are mentioned with the @ symbol. It began hyperlinking the names so others can click on them to see the subject’s profile page. Twitter also gets ideas from the software developers who build Twitter applications. Based on the factors, Twitter and as well as other medias foster creativity through experiences and feedbacks.
